Geography
The state of California has many beaches and mountains which make up much of the state. The valleys, beaches, and cities of California are mostly warm and dry while the mountains remain snow capped for most of the year. California holds the United States tallest mountain, Mount Whitney, located in Sequoia National Park. California also houses the Death Valley which is the hottest place in the United States. The capital of California is Sacramento but this state houses other large cities such as Los Angeles, San Franciso, and San Jose. The population of California stands at a strong 38,292,687 people. The whole west side of California is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean which accounts for California's amazing beaches.

New Mexico is the fifth largest state spanning over 121,000 square miles. The central region of New Mexico is covered by the Rocky Mountains. New Mexico has many mountains but the largest ones is Wheeler Peak located near the central region of the state. New Mexico also has many rivers and lakes such as the San Juan river, Sumner Lake, Rio Grande River, and Conchas Lake. The climate of the state is fairly warm all year except near mountain ranges where climates vary. New Mexico houses a population of 1,654,000 people. The state bird of New Mexico is the roadrunner, the state flower is Yucca, and the state tree Pinyon. The capital of New Mexico is Santa Fe who translates to "the royal city".

Seal and Motto
The motto of New Mexico is "Crescit eundo" but when translated from Latin to English it means "It grows as it goes". The government chose this to symbolize the progression that New Mexico has achieved and the immense progression that is yet to come. The motto of California is "Eureka" which translates from Greek to English as "I have found it". This motto refers to the discovery of gold in California and how it helped the state become the wealthy one it is today.

Demographics
California has diverse religions located in the state with 27.89 percent Catholic, 2 percent Latter Day Saints, 3 percent Baptist, 2 percent Pentecostal, 1 percent Methodist, and 55 percent not religious. The population of California consist of 46.6 percent white, 7 percent African American, 11 percent Asain, and 32 percent Haspanic. 60.5 percent of people in this state speak English, 25.8 percent speak Spanish, 2.6 percent speak Chinese, and 2.0 percent speak Tagalog. In California 11 percent of the population is 65 and older, 21 percent range from the ages 45-64, 31 percent range from the ages 25-44, 14 percent are between the ages 15-24, and 23 percent are under 15. On the other hand in New Mexico 50 percent of the population are religious of that, 29 percent are Catholic, 3 percent are Latter Day Saints, and 5 percent are Protestant. This state has little to no people of the Jewish or Islamic faith. 46 percent of New Mexico's population is Latino, 41 percent are white, 2 percent are black, and 9 percent are Native American. In New Mexico 22.4 percent of the population are between the ages 18 and 29, 23.2 percent are between the ages 30 and 44, 17.8 percent are between the ages 45-54, 17.4 percent are 55-64, and 19.2 percent are 65 or older. In New Mexico 48.5 percent of the population are male while 51.5 percent are female.

Culture
New Mexico is said to have great food but there most popular dish is Posole stew along with green chile stew. This food consist of posole, pork and red or green chile. In California seafood is the most consumed type of food in which the people live her mostly consume crab, shrimp, and swordfish. Hardcore punk, hip hop, country, and heavy metal are the most listened to types of music in California. The official state ballad of New Mexico is "Land of Enchantment" by by Michael Martin Murphy.
