- United States Proverty line are placed below in a table from U.S department of health and human services.
- CIA Fact Book (Cia.gov) states that 15.1% (2010 est) of people in the United States population below the poverty line. Of course because the number was taken from 2010 we can only infer that the percent of people in the United States population below the poverty line has increased.
-CIA Fact Book (Cia.gov) states that 6.2% (2014 est) of the population of the United States are unemployed. In comparison to other countries United States is number 68 on the list of unemployment rates.

- Federal poverty level in California (Annual Values) differs for every family. Below is a table that shows all the many different values of the Federal Poverty Line in California.

Main Reasons for Poverty in Western USA:
Immigration:
-Both New Mexico and California are neighbors to the one and only Mexico. Many Mexicans cross over to the states and closest include New Mexico and California.
- The Census gathers information about Western United States and stated that 38.6% of California's population is Hispanic or Latino (July 2014). Also stated that 47.7% of New Mexico's population is Hispanic or Latino (July 2014).
-In both states, almost half of the population consist of Hispanic or Latino people.
- The U.S immigrant population stands at more than 41.3 million people (2013) in the US. In 2013, 46 percent of immigrants which is 19 million are reported Hispanic or Latino.
- 11.6 million immigrants from Mexico live in the US, largest numbers reside in Western US.
-70% of the 11 million immigrants just from Mexico are in civilian force labor.
- Still even though many immigrants receive work, there pay is not very high to support their families in the States. Also many immigrants come to the states ready to work but many do not speak English. And on top of that many work places do not give work because they are not citizens and are illegal.

Infrastructure:
Homes:
-Due to the increase of taxes and values on property houses in California median sales prices has increased by $120,000 since 2012. Those prices are extremely high which makes many families out of reach to buy a home for their family.
- In the state of New Mexico, one in every 1020 housing units receive a foreclosure filling and the percentage for 2015 has raised up to 18% which means more foreclosures are happening each day.
-Nearly 1,600,000 low income families in California pay more than their own income for housing.
-Due to expensive house payments and values in both New Mexico and California many families use housing vouchers which help low income families pay Geason house thing but still suffer because they are very overcrowded areas and housing layouts.
-Families and others who live under the poverty line truly improve and have better livings yet they are struggling to find jobs, and gain enough money to buy a decent house.

Employment:
-Sadly, 4 out of 10 people in California are living or are almost at the point of poverty.
-Even though 78.3% of families in need of support who live in California have at least Kobe adult working adult and 54.9% have at least one person in their family working full time.
- Families go out a work so hard to bring home support yet still in New Mexico 30% of children live in poverty. Unfortunately a loss of 3,900 jobs have happen just in one year.
-People living near or under the poverty in both New Mexico and California need lots of help to support themselves and their families.
-Social Safety Net and Low-income tax programs reach out to families and truly help them as much as they can. Because of those programs and organizations lower 1.1 to 1.3 points of poverty. Without them the rate would be even higher then it already is.
